A total of 232 Syrians returned home from Egypt on Thursday, as part of the Syrian government’s efforts to repatriate all Syrians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Upon their arrivals in the airport, the returnees, including 14 infants, were taken by buses to quarantine centers where they will spend 14 days, the state news agency SANA reported.
On Monday, 251 Syrians returned from the United Arab Emirates to Damascus. The Syrian government has recently started contacts with foreign countries to bring home the Syrian expats stranded abroad.
Syria’s total infections of COVID-19 stood at 45, including 27 recoveries and three deaths, the Syrian Health Ministry said. The first case of COVID-19 infection was reported in Syria on March 22. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Monday warned of a “real catastrophe” in case of an increase in the number of COVID-19 infections in Syria.
