Twenty-nine dengue fever cases have been reported in the last two weeks in Port Louis, capital of Mauritius, a source from the health ministry said on Thursday.
Mauritius Health Minister Anil Gayan earlier said the first case of dengue fever was reported in Port Louis on March 24.
The minister said the first victim was a resident of the capital who had returned from a trip to India. Later more cases were reported among people who had not travelled recently.
All the patients have been admitted at a local hospital.
Officials from the health ministry are continuing with the fumigation operation in several Port Louis estates.
Last year, during the same period, 44 cases of dengue fever were detected in the northern regions of the country.
According to Dr. Deoraj Caussy from the country’s health ministry, the majority of Mauritians have not been immunized against dengue fever. Enditem
