Turkish police detained 33 people suspected of spying for Israel’s intelligence service Mossad, a cabinet minister said on Tuesday.

The arrests followed an investigation launched by the Istanbul prosecutor office’s terrorism and organized crimes investigation bureau, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said in a post on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. The investigation revealed that the suspects planned to carry out operations against foreign nationals residing in Türkiye, including reconnaissance, pursuit, assault and kidnapping, he said.

The police carried out simultaneous raids on 57 addresses in eight provinces, and seized 143,830 euros (157,807 U.S. dollars), 23,680 U.S. dollars, some other foreign currencies, an unlicensed gun, many cartridges and digital materials, he added.
