- Fingers Destooled Kontihene For Selling Land Demarcated For Schools, Hospital Projects
Nana Akua Afiriyie, Queen mother of Abenkyim near Anwiankwanta in the Amansie East Municipality has rubbished publication by the Kumasi Mail Newspaper and Fox Fm, all based in Kumasi for using land guards to destroy landed properties in the area.
The Kumasi Mail Newspaper indicated on Monday, 5th August in their publication that the property including building and farmlands estimated at a cost of GHC 100,000 was destroyed by the queen who claims the owners sort not for her consent before erecting them.
According to the queen mother, she has never put down any single building or a farmland as carried out by the aforementioned media outlets.
In her explanation, she said just after her enstoolment to her throne, she decided to re-allocate the plots of land in the area in accordance to the layout prepared years ago during the reign of a former chief of the area, Nana Karikari Apau and adopted for use by all stakeholders in the area.
When it came to light that Nana Kofi Amakye who is the Kontihene, distooled, had allocated plots of land to people at sites demarcated for developmental projects such as schools, markets, toilets, streets among others, the queen mother called for buyers of such plots of land to proof their diligence by showing their land documents.
Thereafter, upon sensing danger looming with respect to his foul deal, he organized all those who patronized the buying of the land to file a case against her at the office of the Bekwai District Police Commander, ASP Owoahene Acheampong.
The sudden story was that, the queen mother was detained for hours at the police station following the report without her being allowed the opportunity to narrate her version of the story.
But due to the intervention of her counsel and other personalities, she was bailed out later in the day.
Suspecting some foul plays, Nana Akua took the initiative and reported her ordeal to the Ashanti Regional police Commander, DCOP Augustine Gyening for further investigation to carry out in to the issue.
It is learned that the Bekwai Commander was ordered to the Regional Headquarters of police to answer to his Regional boss why he took that stand in relation to the issue.
Although ASP Owoahene vehemently denied detaining the queen mother, DCOP Augustine Gyening has ordered both parties to produce authentic documentations that will prove that they have the legitimate right to lease out land in the area.
Barely after a month of the order, Nana Akua Afriyie said she has already provided every document asked for, but till now the Kontihene and his gang has failed to fulfil their part.
