About 31,115 BECE candidates begin exams in Volta region

A total of 31,115 candidates are taking part in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Volta region which begins Monday.

The candidates are made up of 15,879 males and 15,236 females from 18 Municipalities and Districts in the Region.

Mr Forgive Yao Agoha, the Public Relations Officer, Volta Regional Directorate of the Ghana Education Service, who disclosed this to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) said a total of 1,132 Schools are participating in the examination at 115 examination centres.

The atmosphere at some of the centres visited by the Ghana News Agency was calm with candidates writing the examination with focused attention.

Invigilators at the various centres were seen moving through the aisle to ensure the candidates complied with principles of the examination.

Mr Hopeson Selase Anyam, a supervisor at Mawuko Girls’ Senior High Centre, told GNA the centre had not encountered any challenge and that everything was peaceful and smooth.

He, however, said six candidates including; five girls and one boy were absent and therefore, were not taking part in the examination.

According to him, one of the girls was a nursing mother and the boy also travelled outside the country, however, nothing was known about the rest.

Mr Anyam urged the candidates to abide by the rules and regulations governing the conduct of the examination and avoid examination malpractices.

At Ho Kpodzi E.P JHS D, Mr Selorm Nelson Adjei, a supervisor at the centre told GNA five candidates including four boys and one girl were absent.
He said one of the candidates had passed on while the rest left the school.
