The items, worth 2,500 Ghana Cedis, comprised 25 student mattresses, toilet rolls, milk, biscuits, juices and drinks, soaps, rice, oils, sponges, towels and other detergents.

Mr Joseph Akongya, President of the NGO, explained that the items were bought through individual contributions of members of the organization, made up of Christian workers, at the Ahafo Mine of Newmont Ghana Gold Limited at Kenyasi.

He said the Ahafo Mine Workers Touching Lives was established to pool resources to support the needy and other vulnerable children in Brong-Ahafo to live meaningful life.

Mr Akongya noted that the proper upbringing and development of children, especially, orphans was a shared responsibility, and advised other organistions to assist in providing for the needy in society.

?These little ones can grow to become national assets or liabilities, depending on the care provided them,’ he said.

Miss Juliana Wekey, Caretaker of the Orphanage, appreciated the unremitting support of the donors towards the upbringing of the 50 inmates, and appealed for more support from other organisations and philanthropists.
