Scores of Boko Haram militants lost their lives following a series of airstrikes conducted by Nigerian Air Force (NAF) in troubled northeast Borno state, an official said Sunday.
The recent air interdiction and armed reconnaissance missions conducted on Friday resulted in the neutralization of dozens of Boko Haram terrorists at multiple locations within Kollaram area of the state, Ibikunle Daramola, NAF spokesperson said in a statement reaching Xinhua in Lagos.
Kollaram is a settlement on the fringes of Lake Chad in the northern part of Borno.
He said the operation, which was part of the ongoing Operation GREEN SWEEP 3 targeted three compounds in the area, where Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports had earlier indicated that the Boko Haram fighters were concentrated.
The spokesperson said the NAF, operating in concert with surface forces, would sustain its efforts to completely destroy all remnants of the terrorists in the northeast.
The northeast region of Nigeria has been destabilized for over a decade by Boko Haram.
Boko Haram is known for its agenda to maintain a virtual caliphate in the most populous African country. Enditem
