For any community to attain holistic development, it must have total commitment to its members with the view of meeting their collective needs and aspirations.
In Kanjaga, a remote community in the Upper East Region of Ghana, the people through self-help and volunteerism have been able to achieve much with little, despite the numerous challenges facing the community.

The elders of the community through annual fund raising projects have built an ICT centre as a means to facilitate teaching and learning in the community, but the centre has since remained unequipped, a situation that has halted the community?s dream of a vibrant, well equipped ICT centre.

Jacob Akisbadek Agyakinla, the man at the forefront of the self-help development in the community said: ?The dream of the Centre is to create a place that is able to accommodate in-school and out-school students “.

To help the community achieve their dreams, Airtel Ghana, through its award winning Corporate Social Responsibility programme, ‘Airtel Touching Lives? has offered to equip the facility with brand new computers with internet routers and Audio Visual Materials to aid teaching and learning.
Additionally, Airtel is supplying the facility with computer training books with an ICT expert to set up the computers at the facility.

?We have been encouraged to do more for our community” said an elated Assembly member of the community, Hon. Semon Conrad Seidu.
The chief of the area, Nab Akanjiaya Akanfella is optimistic that the gesture will go a long way to uplift the educational standard in the area. ?A well-equipped ICT centre would help facilitate learning and also help the children acquire knowledge to help themselves and the community in future”, he said.

Episode six of the third season of ‘Airtel Touching Lives’ also highlights the challenges facing the physiotherapy centre at the Central Regional Hospital and the daily battles of a couple whose child, Aseda , suffered a cerebral defect at birth.

Aseda is unable to sit or perform any other duties likes his peers, and depends solely on his parents. Due to the limited facilities at the hospital, Aseda is unable to get the required exercises with the doctor.

Airtel is supplying the physiotherapy department of the Central Regional Hospital with equipment and some other specialised equipment to help children with their exercises.
Additionally, Airtel is supporting parents of Aseda with home exercise equipment that will enable them exercise Aseda at home.
