President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has unequivocally declared that John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), is unfit to win the upcoming December elections due to a shortage of visionary policies.

Akufo-Addo, speaking at the introduction of NPP running mate Matthew Opoku Prempeh, pointed to Mahama’s previous electoral defeat as evidence of his unsuitability for the presidency.

He drew parallels with past leaders Jerry John Rawlings and John Agyekum Kufuor, emphasizing their successful two-term tenures compared to Mahama’s rejection for a second term. This comparison is significant because it highlights the difference in leadership capabilities and the need for a leader with a proven track record.

“Jerry John Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, and myself have all served two terms,” Akufo-Addo remarked. “Mahama’s rejection during his second term bid underscores his lack of capability.”

The President criticized Mahama for offering nothing new to Ghanaian voters and reiterated concerns about his past tenure, which he claimed led to electoral defeat.

“He talks as if his track record is unknown to us,” Akufo-Addo continued. “During his previous term, he failed to deliver, and that’s why he was rejected. Why should we trust him now? We won’t!”

Akufo-Addo’s comments reflect a sharpening of political rhetoric ahead of what promises to be a crucial and closely contested election. Both major parties are seeking to engage voters with competing visions for Ghana’s future.
