The Mayor of Accra, Dr Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije has called on leaders of the Novotel No. 2 Co-operative Traders and Peace Ordorna Co-operative Societies to create opportunities for their members by adopting an open-door policy that will allow members to consult with them for the forward march of the societies.
He also advised them to smoothly and enact policies that will enable the society operate and produce the results desired by members.
The Mayor said this in an address read on his behalf by Lydia Sackey, Director of Budget at the AMA at the presentation of certificate of registration to the two traders? societies in Accra.
The Mayor averred that the responsibilities of leaders of such co-operative societies are to ensure performance by constantly asking members whether they are doing the things that will result in the outcomes that all members want.
He also said, they must ensure that their members are the most important resources for the survival of co-operatives. ?The greater the number of members, the more resources the society is able to mobilize. Members have the responsibility to attend all meetings called and to contribute to discussions,? he said.
Dr Vanderpuije advised them to ensure they sustain the union though it could be very challenging to do so.
On her part, Mrs. Doris Anaglo, President of? Novotel No. 2 Co-operative Traders Society who read a speech on behalf of the two presidents indicated that since their relocation from Novotel, they have reorganized themselves into the two groups to be able to coordinate their activities.
She also mentioned that they have been faced with many challenges which negatively affected their daily trading activities.
Mrs. Doris Anaglo said, the environment they operate in is not too conducive for them and hence has appealed to the Mayor to draw government?s attention to their plight so as to construct sheds for them.
She also called on City authorities to construct storage facilities for them to house their products.
Mrs. Doris Anaglo who was passionate about the fact that members of the two societies have to contend with the unavailability of sheds called on the Mayor to assist them in that regard.
She thanked the Mayor and the AMA for recognizing them as societies and present certificates to them, assuring the Mayor of their unflinching support in his operations.
