Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Daudi Migereko
?The act (elderly women stripping before him) that I witness in Amuru was the worst. I was supposed to run away and reconsider my mandate at the ministry,? the minister said.
Migereko was speaking during the national stakeholders? workshop on the implementation of the national land policy at Imperial Royale hotel in Kampala on Wednesday.
In April, elderly women from Amuru district striped before Migereko and his internal affairs counterpart, Gen. Aronda Nyakairima, when the two ministers visited the area to sensitize the residents about the planed boundary demarcation between Amuru and Adjumani districts.
Migereko, who was overwhelmed by the nudity of the elderly women, broke down in tears.
Aronda remained steadfast although he avoided eye contact with the naked women by looking in different directions.
The residents from Amuru viewed the demarcation as a ploy to dispose them of their land.
The Government has since shelved plans to demarcate the boundary to ease friction between the two districts.
?I have been threatened with more dramatic scenes when I go back. People don?t want me to talk about land, but I am the minister for lands,? Migereko said.
Development partners, land owners and district land officials including some from northern Uganda, expressed ?sympathy? to Migereko.
?I want to tell you these women were trained to strip naked for us for two weeks in a camp by politicians. They summersaulted, cried for 30 minutes and wanted to attack us in a military manner,? Migereko said.
