He also urged investors to also consider other natural resources of the area for investment. Torgbui Gbordzor made the appeal when mobile telecommunication giant MTN Ghana presented a cheque of three thousand Ghana cedis and assorted items worth one thousand Ghana cedis to the Anlo State to support this year?s Hogbetsotso Festival.

The presentation was part of the company?s corporate social responsibility to promote culture, tourism and heritage. So far the company through its MTN Ghana Foundation has invested over 15.5 million Ghana cedis in Corporate Social Investment initiatives in the areas of health, education, water and economic empowerment throughout the country.

The festival which was climaxed this weekend with a grand durbar on Saturday, November 1st and Thanksgiving on Sunday November 2nd was under the theme; ?Strengthening Our Culture Values and Traditions with Rapid Growth in Development.?
The Anlo State covers over 10 traditional and over five districts. Agriculturally, the north-eastern sector of the Keta Municipality has suitable soils for the cultivation of non-traditional crops such as ginger, black pepper, cashew and also vegetables such as cowpeas, pepper and tomato. The area is also good for for sugar cane cultivation; a basis for a buoyant distillery.

The large and small water bodies in the area offer excellent opportunities for irrigation and aqua-culture for the production of shrimps and tilapia as labour is cheap and abundant in the area.

A ceramic industry is also possible at Bomigo in the areal. Pre-feasibility reports indicate that this area has 3.2 million metric tonnes of high quality clay which can support a factory capable of producing 50 million bricks anually for over 21 years.

The clay can also be used for an array of ceramic products, such as cups, plates, pottery, roofing and bathroom tiles. Salt mining at Afiadenyigba, Seva, Havedzi and Nolopi is another important economic potential, of the district. Vast opportunities abound in this area of economic activity and if fully exploited, the salt requirements of the West African sub-region can be met from the area.

Torgbui Gbordzor expressed appreciation to MTN for their continued support for the festival, the area and the socio-economic development of Ghana. He said the festival will be used to showcase the tourism and other business potentials of the area.

The Volta Sales and Distribution Manager of the MTN, David Woasey who made the presentation acknowledged the many investment potentials in the area and noted that MTN was committed to supporting Ghana to develop in all ways including tourism. He said the company will organize various social activities including health walk throughout the festive period. During the festival which was climaxed over the weekend MTN held a Culturefest entertainment package for the festival which attracted hip-life musician Stay Jay of ?Shasheewowo? fame, Koo Ntakra and Cano Z, both of the MTN Hit-Maker fame, J.J. Gonami and many other artistes.

Hogbetsotso is usually celebrated in the first week of November by the people of Anglo in the Volta Region to commemorate the exodus and the bravery of their ancestors who led them to escape from the tyrannical ruler, King Ago-Koli of Notsie in the Republic of Togo.
