Commander of Angola’s Southern Military Region Fabiano Hihepa said on Wednesday the armed forces of the country were in a continuous process of preparation to face up the expansion of international terrorism.
Speaking at the closing meeting of the operative, combative and patriotic education preparation assessment for the year 2014-2015 in the region, the army general said the southern military region has seen constant violations of borders with the illegal entry of foreign citizens, but the authorities were on alert and taking measures to put an end to this silent invasion, the official news agency Angop reported.
The army official called for preparation of the troops with new military technologies to counter the threat of international terrorism although no major terrorist attacks were reported in the country since decades of armed conflicts came to an end in the year 2002.
The meeting, held in southern city of Lubango, was attended by heads of different branches and services, commanders of divisions and senior army officers assigned to the region.
Angola expels thousands of foreigners each year, mostly from neighboring countries who flock to its territories for better job opportunities, despite efforts by the Angolan armed forces and border police to guard against illegal immigration along the Angolan borders. Enditem
