Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says he substituted Sulley Muntari to boost his side as they were losing the midfield battle in the second-half of Sunday 2-0 win over Lesotho in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.

The Black Stars boss insists he does not solely depend on one player as there are equally capable substitutes on the bench of the four-time African champions.

The coach was answering questions over why he substituted Muntari during the game in Maseru.

Appiah says if there is a need for substitution when players are not playing according to instruction or wants to change the game plan he can make changes to outwit the opponent.

?Most of the time you go into a game and put some players out there to perform. If for some reason you think you want to make a change to improve the game, it is always good that you do it,? Appiah said.

According to Coach Appiah, the AC Milan star is undoubtedly a phenomenal player by all standards, but he needed to beef up the team so Ghana could keep hold to its lead.

?Sulley is a good player and he is doing well. I changed him because I thought there were some better players who have been on the bench so I gave them the opportunity to see what they can also do,? the Black Stars coach said in a post-game interview.

Sulley Muntari was clearly unhappy after being substituted in Ghana?s 2-0 away win over Lesotho in a 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifier last Sunday.

The AC Milan ace questioned why he was replaced by Emmanuel Agyemang-Badu in the 64th minute.

The midfielder refused to sit on the bench with his colleagues and rather choose to walk straight into the dressing room looking extremely furious.
