Ashanti Region needs more appointments?Onasis Kobby

A member of the Ashanti  regional Communication Team of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC,) Onasis Kobby Rosely, has called on President John Dramani Mahama to, as a matter of strategising for victory 2016, make more appointments from the Ashanti Region.

In his view, the region played a decisive role in ensuring the victory of the NDC in the December 2012 General Elections, and thus proper that those from whose hard work the victory came are duly appreciated.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Today in Kumasi, Onasis Rosely stated that even though the region has for long been noted as a ?no-go area? for the NDC, it managed to get a higher percentage votes for then candidate John Dramani Mahama.

Comparing the total votes cast for the late President Mills in 2004 and 2008 to that of President Mahama in 2012, Onasis explained that even though the former garnered more votes in the Greater Accra and Volta Regions that was not the case in the Ashanti Region.

?In 2008 candidate Mills had 25 per cent in the Ashanti Region but candidate Mahama had close to 29 per cent last December. So if President Mahama had that number of votes in a region where we, hitherto, had serious challenges with acceptance and they (the NPP) could not get anywhere close in the Volta Region and other parts of the country, then this should tell the whole world that we did very well here,? he stated proudly.

The young man who obtained his Master?s Degree in Oil and Gas last year noted that the votes cast for President Dramani Mahama in the December polls was unprecedented hence showing the relentless and uncompromising campaign embarked upon by the regional campaign team of the party.

According to him, that explains why he is appealing to the president to make more appointments in the region.

He was of the view that if those who worked hard for the party to garner that percentage votes for the president are rewarded, it would not only get more people willingly offering themselves to assist the party in various forms but also help to easily promote the Better Ghana Agenda.

?The NDC has been commended by both the international community and the Ghanaian populace for giving young people the chance to show their capability and competence in certain areas of government during the late Prof. Mills? administration which our current president effectively completed. I want to believe that President Mahama will continue on that path,? he said

As to whether he wanted the president to appoint all NDC activists in the region as ministers, the communication team member noted that, ?there are positions for deputy ministers, special assistants, board members and party faithful(s) can be appointed to any of these positions depending on their capabilities.?
