Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission Moussa Faki Mahamat has approved the deployment of an AU Election Observation Mission (AUEOM) to the Equatorial Guinea’s parliamentary elections scheduled for Nov. 12.

Led by Pierre Damien Habumuremyi, former Prime Minister of Rwanda, the short-term election observation mission comprises 30 observers drawn from members of the AU Permanent Representative Committee, Pan African Parliament, election management bodies, civil society organizations and academia, according to an AU statement on Friday.

The mission has the objectives of providing an accurate, impartial reporting or assessment of the elections, to offer recommendations for future elections; and to demonstrate AU’s support for Equatorial Guinea’s elections and democratization process, it said. Enditem
