Bechem United’s Boxing Day fixture against Berekum Holy Stars in the Ghana Premier League was abandoned due to the Hunters’ failure to arrive at the Ampain Sports Arena, with the home side being awarded a 3-0 victory by forfeit.

The unfortunate turn of events for Bechem United began the day before the match, when their team bus broke down, leaving players and officials stranded. Despite attempts to repair the vehicle, the problem could not be resolved in time for the fixture. The challenges of the festive season, which saw limited transportation options, made it impossible to secure an alternative route.

In a bid to resolve the situation, Bechem United informed the Ghana Football Association (GFA) of their predicament, even providing hotel receipts to demonstrate their commitment to attending the match. The club requested a postponement, but the GFA denied the request, citing league regulations.

As a result, Holy Stars and match officials were present at the stadium, but Bechem’s absence led to the forfeiture of the match. According to the rules, Holy Stars were awarded the full three points and a 3-0 scoreline.

In other Premier League action on Thursday, Heart of Lions extended their lead at the top of the table with a 1-0 victory over Young Apostles at the Kpando Sports Stadium. Kwesi Pong scored the match-winner late in the game, helping the Lions maintain their strong title push. Meanwhile, Aduana FC secured a narrow 1-0 win over bottom-placed Legon Cities.
