
In a statement issued in Cotonou on Sunday, the teachers’ union said learning in public schools may be disrupted on Feb. 1 if the government does not implement a 25 percent salary hike and pay an 80,000 CFA Francs (132 U.S. dollars) backdated pay to all teachers.
According to the same source, these demands were part of the commitments made by Benin’s government during talks with the teachers’ union in November 2015.
“If the government fails to satisfactorily respond to our demands, it should be held responsible for any inconvenience that will be witnessed in our schools,” the union’s statement concluded. Enditem
