Ghana’s Black Princesses play Polish club Sleza Wroclaw in a closed-doors friendly on Tuesday, August 25, their first warm-up match ahead of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
The game kicks off at 14:00 GMT at the Stadion Sportowy Olawka in Wroclaw. Sleza Wroclaw play in the Orlen Ekstraliga Kobiet, Poland’s top women’s division, giving head coach Charles Sampson a genuine test as he fine-tunes his squad.
Sampson will use the match to assess his players, build team chemistry and work through tactical options. A 17-player squad left Accra for Poland on August 16, with the remaining members of the party joining the team in camp there.
The tournament runs from September 5 to 27 across four Polish cities: Bielsko-Biala, Katowice, Lodz and Sosnowiec. Ghana were drawn into Group C alongside France, Korea Republic and Ecuador, and open their campaign against Ecuador on September 6.
This is Ghana’s eighth consecutive appearance at the tournament, and the Black Princesses have never advanced past the group stage in their previous seven attempts. They booked their spot in Poland by edging Uganda 3-2 on aggregate in the African qualifiers in May, with a late free-kick from Linda Owusu Ansah sealing a 1-1 draw in the away leg after Ghana had won the first leg 2-1 in Accra.
