Blame Samia for CPP?s Performance -Sekou

Son of Ghana?s first president, Dr Sekou Nkrumah has blamed the abysmal performance of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the December 7 general elections on the ?bad? leadership of party Chairperson, Samia Yaba Nkrumah.

He said Samia?s immaturity in the dynamics of Ghanaians politics is a major contributing factor in CPP?s poor showing in Friday?s polls.

The CPP in last Friday?s polls managed to pull only 20,323 votes representing 0.18 percent out of the 10,995,262 total votes cast.

The party also lost the Jomoro Constituency seat held by its Chairman, Samia Nkrumah which means the CPP has no representation in Parliament.

On Asempa FM?s Ekosii Sen programme Wednesday, Sekou Nkrumah said it is not surprising Samia Nkrumah as Chairperson of the CPP did not make an impact because ?she rode on the back of the fame of our father?.

According to him, Samia has not developed political wings to lead a vibrant party like the CPP. He said the sister has been caught up in a political whirlwind she is not ready for.

The maverick politician noted that there was no way Samia could have maintained the Jomoro seat considering the formidable electoral machine of the NDC in the constituency.

Dr. Nkrumah was quick to add that his criticism of his sister?s leadership style is not to derail the progress of the CPP but to ensure the right things are done.

?I want to see a strong and viable CPP; but I?m also realistic and will always speak my mind on what I think is right or wrong,? he opined.

Sekou Nkrumah maintained that the CPP has been ?flogging a dead horse for many years? hence if the leadership of the party does not merge with any of the bigger parties, their electoral fortunes will continue to dwindle.
