Gunmen, suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect, on Sunday attacked a security location in Ngelzarma community of Fune Local Government Area of Yobe State.
Witnesses said the sect members first launched attack on a military check point in the town at about 6:00pm local time.
There was gun battle between the gunmen and security forces in an effort to repel the attack.
Ngelzarma is 40 kilometres west of Damaturu, the Yobe State capital and located on the Damaturu-Potiskum-Kano highway.
Details of the attack are yet to be released but the State Commissioner of Police, Sanusi Rufai, who confirmed the incident, said the sect members launched attack at the security location in the town.
The town had last year had its fair share of attacks by the sect members.
At one of the attacks in February 2013, seven members of a vigilante group, who were holding a meeting at the motor park of the town, were killed.
