2e2c1711fe12b24ae23d95c35bfd21c2_MLAGOS -?GLOBACOM, the?indigenous?telecommunications firms?company, is optimistic about emerging as the successful bidder in the auctioning of the 2.3GHz broadband spectrum license.

The winner will be announced later on Wednesday.

Glo and Bitflux are the two companies competing for the license after several other interested firms like MTN, Airtel, Etisalat voluntarily withdrew from the bid.

Their?withdrawal?came after Federal Lawmakers said they were against the participation of?private companies?in the spectrum bid.

The lawmakers insisted that the participation of privately held companies in the spectrum sales would not be in the?best interest?of the country since they are not subject to the corporate governance and full disclosure standards obligatory for?publicly listed companies.

According to the Nigeria?Communications?Commission (NCC) guidelines, the winner of the single 2.3 GHz spectrum will become the sole wholesaler of?broadband services?to other service providers in the local market.

Speaking?on the chances of winning the bid, Glo’s Group?Chief Operating Officer, Mohamed Jameel, said the company had all it takes to win and was optimistic of becoming the new national broadband company.

Jameel noted that?obtaining?the broadband spectrum?licence?on offer would enable the company to mobilize necessary infrastructure to move telecommunications to its next phase of development in Nigeria.

He noted that Glo had the capacity to provide quality broadband services?nationwide?through its?submarine cable.

?We have the capacity to?deploy?very quickly, the technical know-how and the international bandwidth through our Glo 1 submarine cable,? he said.

Jameel said winning the? license would place a critical responsibility on Glo license since there would be more dependence?on the internet.
