“Burkinabe soldiers have been deployed at different border points, ready to fire,” the minister said during a press conference in Ouagadougou.

The security situation has worsened in Burkina Faso following twin attacks in mid-January for which Al-Qaida in Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) claimed responsibility, and also after an attack at an arms depot by soldiers allied to former president Blaise Compaore.
During a meeting with Burkinabes living in Ethiopia, on the sidelines of an African Union Summit, Burkina Faso President Roch Marc Christian Kabore openly accused former president Compaore of being directly linked with perpetrators of these acts.
“The reason today we are being attacked is because the friendship that Compaore’s regime had formed with these armed groups has been terminated,” Kabore said.
During Compaore’s reign, these armed groups were based in Ouagadougou where they slept in luxurious hotels under the pretext of negotiation to resolve the Malian crisis, he explained.
Security minister said about 20 people were arrested after the attack at an arms depot near Ouagadougou.
Elsewhere on Thursday, President Kabore met with the country’s military leadership to “congratulate them for the good work they are doing and to equally find out their concerns.” Enditem
