Senior Cadre, Noble Alagskomah Asakeya
A senior cadre and member of the Council of Elders of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East region has advised President-elect, John Daramani Mahama not to allow people around him to influence him to abandon his positive traits which influenced majority of Ghanaians to vote for him.
According to Noble Alagskomah Asakeya, the party elder, some good and humble candidates became tyrants and ignored the plight of the people who voted them into power due to bad counsel.
The senior cadre gave the advice during an interview with DAILY GUIDE in Bolgatanga.
Hon. Alagskomah noted that the President?s victory in the December 7 polls, together with an NDC majority in Parliament, was an indication of the love trust that majority of Ghanaians had reposed in the party.
He said the electorate had accepted the fact that a performing party and Members of Parliament (MPs) must be kept in power.
?President Mahama?s victory with a very comfortable parliamentary majority is a victory for democracy, victory for Ghana and also a plus to for democratic credentials. Prudent management, judicious and equitable use of state resources as well as good governance played a key role in the renewal of his mandate. His transparent, accountable, humble and honest posture, coupled with the splendid performance at the IEA Presidential Debate, kept him ahead of his competitors. He must keep these up.?
Hon. Alagskomah called on President Mahama to continue investing in education, agriculture, youth development, energy and road construction as promised during the campaign, adding that ?it is the only way to reward Ghanaians for keeping the NDC in power.?
Touching on some pockets of violence after the declaration of President Mahama as the winner in the polls, Hon. Alagskomah called on the police to arrest miscreants who destroy public property in the name of jubilation or protesting the outcome of the December general elections, saying ?all crimes should be dealt with equally, we should not allow politics to cover some criminals while others without political cover suffer for their crimes. No political party is bigger than Ghana.?
