Cameroon League One Clubs Turn To Foreign Coaches

With the Cameroon Professional football League in its third year, clubs are now seeking foreign expertise in order to emerge as champs.

Unlike before, where it was usually Coton Sport of Garoua that sought the expertise of expatriates, clubs like 2012 champs, Union of Douala and Unisport of Haut Nkam, this year solicited the services of foreign coaches.

The 2013 champs, Coton Sport of Garoua, after the departure of their title winning coach, S?bastien Desabre, signed former Rayong Sports FC of Rwanda coach, Didier Gomes da Rosa.

The Frenchman, who quit the reigning Rwandan champions recently, replaces Desabre who had moved to Egypt.

The 44-year-old will have a tough task trying to emulate Desabre, who refused to renew his contract with the 12-time Cameroon champions.

Didier Gomes was a goalkeeper during his playing days. He started his coaching career in 2009, and has coached ES Foss?enne FC, US Cagnes, Cannes B (all in France) and Rayong Sports FC of Rwanda.

Also, in order to bounce back to their glorious days, last year?s third place, Nassara Boys (as they are commonly called) decided to seek the services of Frenchman, Sebastien Roques, who replaces another expatriate, Vladan Tomic, who has been acting as interim coach.

Sebastien Roques, 40, was offered a-two year contract. ?Roques was a football player but was forced to stop play at the age of 21 as a result of a knee injury. He has worked with a number of clubs in French League 1 and 2 sides, Lithuania, football consultant in Canada and as technical adviser in Asia. ?He will have as task to lead Union to the title and also at the Orange CAF Confederations Cup this year.

On their part, last year?s fourth place Unisport of Haut Nkam, sought the services of Serbian born Ivanovich. The Serb, who took over from Ndjilli Ndengue, will have as task to take the team to the top of the table.
