Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Authority (AFFA) Interim Director General Alfred Busolo told journalists in Nairobi that the Chinese have agreed to provide assistance in improving research and training of farmers.

China Money“We want pyrethrum production to increase from the current 700 metric tons annually to 5,000 metric tons in the next five years,” Busolo said.

He said that Kenya is looking forward to giving more licenses to Chinese investors. Chinese investors have already set up a joint venture with locals to process pyrethrum, a key ingredient in the manufacturing of insecticides.

Busolo said that in order to increase the uptake of pyrethrum by the farmers, the Chinese investors have established a nursery. “They want to multiply seeds so that farmers can have access to high quality seeds,” he said. Enditem
