Two Nigerian club sides, Heartland FC of Owerri and Warri Wolves have been bundled out of the Confederation Cup, ending the nation’s aspirations to have a representative to win the CAF Confederation trophy.
Both teams on away missions could not muster strength to guide against slipping out of the Confederation competition despite their earlier victories against their opponents in Nigeria a fortnight ago.
Heartland FC of Owerri lost 2–1 to Congolese team, AC Leopards, in Brazzaville after winning 3–2 in Owerri two weeks ago, abruptly ending its campaign for the confederation silverware.
The 2011 Federation Cup Champions failed to curtail the Congolese team that almost ruined its fun in the first leg match held in Owerri , which resulted in the slime score line that sent it packing from the competition this weekend
In South Africa, it was the same sad tale for Warri Wolves, who were devoured by their opponents, Black Leopards of South Africa in Polokwane.
Wolves, whose 3-1 win against the South African side a fortnight ago in Warri could have scaled through the hurdle, failed to leave up to expectations losing 2-0 to their hosts. The result has qualified Black Leopards to advance to the next stage of the Confederation Cup on away goals rule after the two legged encounter tied 3-3 on aggregate.
Warri Wolves are now the third victims to be devored by the hungry Leopards, after Motor Action of Zambia and Lupopo of DR Congo were equally eliminated.
