A 25-year old convict, who made a daring attempt to break jail has had his sentence increased by additional three years.

Kwame Owusu Abelay was originally serving a five-year prison term for theft.

He pleaded guilty to the second offence, when he appeared before a Kumasi Circuit Court presided over by Justice Emmanuel Amo-Yartey.

Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour Kyei told the court that Abelay is a prisoner at the Manhyia Prisons in Kumasi.

At about 1615 on January 17, a prison officer saw him scaling the prison wall and raised the alarm.

This attracted other officers who caused his arrest after a hot chase.

Abelay in his caution statement admitted the offence. GNA
