The package includes; Safe return allowance, feeding allowance and waybill allowance that would be paid into their accounts in addition to their salaries at the end of every month.
Mr Ernest Okyere, Fleet Manager at Dangote, said this during the training programme of the newly recruited one thousand (1,000) drivers for the Dangote Cement Company in Tema.
The drivers were taken through topics such as; vehicle knowledge and maintenance, psychology in driving, Highway Code of acknowledging road signs, understanding and using road furniture, courtesy and driving ethics.
Other topics treated were; causes of road accidents and prevention, defensive driving and representation of the company’s image on the road.
Mr Okyere said the motivation of drivers was paramount to the growth and development of the company as they acted as agents of the distribution chain from the port to all the corners of the country and beyond.
“Drivers play a very vital role in our distribution chain and that is why we have brought in one thousand new trucks and recruited one thousand drivers as well to help in our onward march,” the Fleet Manager said.
Mr Venkatesh Anandalwar, General Manager of Transport in Dangote, said the drivers are trained in batches of between 50 and 60 and given four-hour intensive training each day to enable them to comprehend the lessons.
“We in Dangote believe that training of drivers plays a crucial role towards the carting of our products safely to our desired destinations.”
He said the Training Consultant the Company had engaged was competent enough to take them through all the orientation that would empower them to become best long journey drivers in the country.
Mr David Aikens, one of the drivers under training, expressed happiness that they were undertaking the training programme, adding that it would go a long way to sharpen their driving skills to avoid petty accidents on the road.
