Super Eagles depart for Peru, as the Flying Eagles are set to leave for SA and Super Falcons for Harare

The Super Eagles have departed for Lima, Peru for an international friendly match scheduled for Wednesday, after their flight was cancelled on Saturday night following the discovery of a drug courier on board.

Contrary to earlier plans, they will be arriving Lima on Monday evening for a friendly match, which is part of an integrated programme to prepare the team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup and 2013 African Nations Cup qualifying matches coming up next month.

The Flying Eagles will also travel to Cape Town, South Africa for an Eight-Nation Invitational Tournament that will involve Argentina, Brazil, Cameroon, Ghana, Japan, Kenya and the host nation.

The tournament, for which Nigeria is defending champion after winning the inaugural event in 2010, is meant to grill the new team being prepared by Coach John Obuh for the qualification series of next year’s African Youth Championship.

The Flying Eagles will clash with Tanzania in the second round of  qualifying series in July, with the first leg in Dar es Salaam.

On Tuesday in Abuja, Super Falcons’ Head Coach, Kadiri Ikhana will unveil his team for the African Women Championship qualifying fixture against Zimbabwe in Harare.

It is the only fixture the Falcons, who are also reigning champions of Africa, have to go through before qualification for this year’s African Women Championship in Equatorial Guinea.

The Falcons will fly out of Nigeria on Wednesday for the first leg coming up in Harare on May 26.
