Elmina fishmongers receive basins?From Landing Beach Committee

The Bantuma Landing Beach Committee in Elmina on Tuesday distributed450 basins worth GH?13,950 to fish mongers at ELMINA to boost theirfishing activities.

The basins which were given to women for free were purchased from theprofit of the sale of premix fuel by the landing beach committee.

Presenting the basins to the women, a member of the National PremixCommittee, Mr. John Quayson popularly known as Maanoma disclosed that the initiative was the third since the landing beach committee wasformed in 2009.

He explained that due to the prudent management of the sale of premixfuel, the committee has been making huge profits since its formation,adding that communities under the committee have consequently benefitted immensely.

He pointed out that the first profit made by the committee was used topurchase electricity poles which connected communities from Ahona to Pershi to the national grid.

He added that the second one was also used to purchase 300 traditional grills which the fishmongers use in grilling their fish which was shared amongst them.
Maanoma revealed that the committee consults the people first to knowwhat they really need before they embark on any initiative.

According to him, the fish mongers used to hire basins at exorbitant fees to go on their fishing activities and noted that the initiativewill go a long way to alleviate the stress they go through in the line of their work.

He noted that the exercise is part of the Better Ghana Agenda to boostthe fishing sector and enable the women cater for their families.

He stated that the exercise was not partisan, adding that every womanwill get a basin no matter her political affiliation.
He therefore expressed his gratitude to government for the supportgiven fishermen in the area and charged the people to reciprocate byvoting for the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) to continuethe good works it was doing.
