The state government moves to solve its accommodation problems

The Enugu State Government has purchased the Nigerian Coal Corporation headquarters and the hospital complex located in Enugu at the cost of N200 million and N238 million respectively.

Chuks Ugwoke, the state’s Commissioner for Information, while briefing journalists at the end of the state’s Executive Council meeting in Enugu on Wednesday, said that the purchase would mitigate the office accommodation facing the state.

He said the council had approved the acquisition of Colliery Hospital, belonging to the corporation, at the cost of N238 million which would be used as an annex for the state’s teaching hospital.

According to Ugwoke, the hospital would function as a dedicated hospital for children and pregnant women under the free maternal and child health care.

“The Enugu State Teaching Hospital is already over stretched with the influx of patients demanding attention,” he said. “The complex will serve as a referral centre from the district hospitals on issues of child and maternal health.”

Ugwoke also said the council approved the establishment of a recreation park in Udi Local Government Area of the state, adding that a United States Leisure and Recreation company would assist the government in handling the project.
