The facilitator for the dialogue, Edem Kodjo, opened the session on Tuesday and proceeded to verify the mandates of the 19 delegates selected to be members of the preparatory committee.

Representatives of the presidential majority camp, the opposition and civil society presented to Kodjo letters authorizing them to participate in the preparatory committee.

The Congolese civil society coordinator Jonas Tshiombela said the first day was essentially used for verification and validation of the mandates.

The preparatory committee will be charged with the role of coming up with the agenda for the dialogue, proposing internal rules of engagement as well as resolving any logistical and material issues.

The facilitator recently announced that the preparatory committee for the dialogue will officially start its sittings on July 30 in Kinshasa.

On Sunday, opposition members led by Etienne Tshisekedi rejected the facilitator of dialogue, accusing him of partiality and non-respect for necessary preconditions before the start of the dialogue. Enditem
