Atikpui, a farming community in the Ho Municipal area, on the Ghana-Togo border, is in dire need of clean water and toilet facilities, Mr Steven Adzantor, an opinion leader for the community told the Ghana News Agency.
He said the only borehole in the community broke down about three years ago, with the inhabitants relying on the Tordzi River for all purposes.
Mr Adzantor said the situation was causing upsurge in water related diseases especially among pupils and appealed for intervention.
He told the GNA that the toilet facility on the Roman Catholic Primary School compound remained the only toilet facility in the community and that open defecation was rampant.
Mr Adzantor appealed to the Ho Municipal Assembly to support the locals to construct household latrines to improve sanitation in the border town.
