FERMA says it still needs about N350 billion to maintain roads

The federal government says it has spent the sum of N1.1 trillion on the maintenance of federal roads from 1976 to date.
Olajide Adeniyi, the board chairman, Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), said on Tuesday that the federal government, however, presently requires the sum of N320 billion to effectively maintain about 200,000 kilometres of the national road network.
He stated that FERMA will revamp Nigerian roads in the next eight years with the support of the newly introduced Public Private Participatory Road Maintenance Programme.
The chairman added that the agency has decided to start conceding roads to contractors for a certain period of years.
