The operation which was led by Morocco’s Prof. Boumzebra Drisia, head of cardiovascular surgery at the Mohamed VI University Hospital in Marrakech, was a “total success,” the source said.

The surgery which was termed as “a perfect illustration of South-South cooperation, was carried out at the Mali Hospital in Bamako which was constructed by China.

The medical operation that was initiated by Malian youths who are members of the Friends of Timbuktu Club in collaboration with Mohamed VI University Hospital in Marrakech, was supported by Mali’s First Lady Keita Aminata Maiga.

According to Mali’s presidency, over 2,000 people suffer from cardiovascular diseases in Mali, with over 50 percent of them being poor children and women who lack financial capacity to seek proper medication.

The number of patients to be operated on was not revealed. Enditem
