An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday handed a ten year jail term to a Fisherman, Kwabla Kpodo, on the charge of robbery.
Kwabla was put before the court for robbing one Evert V. Uffeter citizen of Netherland, who is currently on holidays in Ghana, of his backpack bag containing, his Netherlands passport, assorted bank cards, a wrist watch, sun glasses, a pair of slippers and an amount of GHc350.00.
He pleaded guilty to the charge before the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh and was sentenced accordingly.
The Prosecution led by Superintendent Kweku Bempah told the court that the convict is a fisherman resident at Tsokome in the Greater Accra Region.
He said on November 18, at about 1430 hours, the complainant was walking along the shores of the Tsokome beach with his bag behind him when suddenly Kwabla who had then laid ambush, emerged from nowhere with a cutlass in his hand and violently attacked the complaint, collected his bag and bolted.
Superintendent Bempah said on the same a day a report was made to the Police, which led to the arrest of the convict from his hideout at Tsokome together with the complainant’s stolen bag and some of its content.
The Prosecution told the court that in his caution statement, Kwabla, admitted the offence and mentioned one Castro as his accomplice who ordered him to attack the complainant.
