Five al-Shabab terrorists detained in Somali capital

Somali National Army (SNA) said its forces arrested five al-Shabab terrorists during security operations conducted in the outskirts of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, Wednesday.

The SNA commanders who led the operations told the SNA Radio that the militants were involved in staging assassinations and bombings in Deynile, Kahda, Elasha Biya and Garasbaaley.

“The security operations to pursue al-Shabab terrorists will continue in Banadir region to ensure Mogadishu city can be safe,” the military radio reported.

The arrests come a day after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud ruled out negotiating with the terrorist group and vowed instead to pursue the military strategy to flush out the militants in Somalia.

The government forces which have intensified security operations across the country since early this year have pledged to sustain the onslaught against the militant group until their fighters are subdued.

The al-Shabab terrorist group which still controls some parts of rural southern and central Somalia, however, continues to carry out high-profile attacks in Mogadishu and elsewhere across the country. Enditem
