The Asante-Akim South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) have presented relief items to five communities recently hit by a heavy rainstorm.
The storm that left in its trail massive destruction of properties including schools affected Dwendwenase, Tokwai Asuboi, Atta ne Atta, Ofoase and Atwedie.
The items worth GHc 20, 050.00 included 25 packets of roofing sheets, 80 bags of cement, 30 mini bags of maize and three bales of used clothes.
Mr. Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive, presenting the items at separate short ceremonies, said the items were meant to mitigate the plight of the victims.
He entreated the people to use communal labour to fix the affected schools to cut down the cost of renovation and also ensure the materials were used for the purpose they were meant for, adding that a monitoring team would be deployed to ensure the materials were not diverted.
Mr. Samuel Agyekum Darkwah, the Municipal NADMO Director, advised the people to take preventive measures to avert future recurrence by maintaining their buildings.
He strongly recommended tree planting in communities to serve as windbreaks during rainy seasons.
Nana Owusu Akyem Tenten, the Chief of Dwendwenase, praised the assembly and NADMO for their swift response to their plight.
