Ghana produced a polished display to thrash Uruguay 5-0 in their second group D match at the FIFA Under-17 Women?s World Cup on Wednesday.
A superb brace from captain Priscilla Okyere and a goal each from Janet Ayiayem, Alberta Ahialey and Fatima Alhassan condemned their South American opponent to the heavy defeat in Azerbaijan.
The Black Maidens responded positively to their opening day defeat to Germany with a sublime performance that got fans at the Dalga Arena in Baku scratching their head.
The Ghanaians took their destiny into their own hands by dictating the pace of the game from the blast of the referees whistle.
Striker Janet Ayiadem opened the scoring for the side in the 8th minute after she headed from a corner kick to ignite confidence and they never looked back.
The West African heavyweights continued to pile pressure on a sloppy South American side which lacked depth and quality to stand the might of the Black Maidens.
Influential captain Priscilla Okyere registered her name on the scoresheet after she nodded home the second for the Ghanaians 16th minutes later before striker Alberta Ahialey capitalized on a goalkeeping howler from Anabal Ubal to put them in the driving seat on the stroke of full time.
Ghana resumed the second half revitatlised and continued their dominance of the game.
Midfielder Fatima Alhassan scored a fabulous screamer from 25-yards against the run of play in the 78th minute before Okyere got her personal second with a sublime finish 11th minutes to regulation time.
The emphatic victory will serve as a real boost to the Maidens ahead of their final must-win group game against China on September 30.
