Homa Bay County police commander John Omusanga said Saturday the commuter mini bus was washed away by flood when its driver attempted to cross a bridge Friday evening. Rescuers saved 18 people, among them three children.

“Three bodies were recovered on Friday night while four others were recovered on Saturday morning,” Omusanga said, adding that the search for more bodies in the stream was still on.
He said that nine of those rescued were being treated at the local hospital. And the conductor of the commuter minibus that had 33 people onboard survived.
Heavy rains have been experienced in the Kenya’s western region, affecting livelihoods.
On Tuesday, government officials said some 54 people have been killed by El Nino rains that have been pounding parts of Kenya since October, with most of the deaths resulting from flash floods and landslides.
The National Disaster Management Unit (NDMU) said the flash floods produced by El Nino rains have also displaced thousands of people in 14 counties, with the most affected area being Narok County in south western Kenya.
Flash floods have caused widespread destruction of property and infrastructure, as well as disruption of key activities such as farming and education in various areas of Kenya. Enditem
