Allegedly Take To Alcohol

Officials of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at Mampong Akwapim in the Eastern Region have taken to alcohol drinking as they abandon their normal duties.

The Moment can confirm the? bad behaviour on the part of these Officials of the service having neglected their daily assignments and resorted to drinking, hopping from one drinking bar to another.

This was clearly witnessed when this reporter paid a courtesy visit to the Service at Mampong Akwapim where he saw in astonishment GNFS officials in uniform highly intoxicated and snoring in deep sleep.

Around March last year, a house at Mampong which caught fire burnt down to ashes because personnel of the Fire Service in the town could not respond immediately to the situation.

It is undisputable fact in the town that the officials of the service failed to respond to the situation because they were drunk.

This, the people say is a bad practice on the part of the fire service and could spell doom should any unfortunate incident occur again in the area.

In order for the government to achieve its goal in that arena, the indigenes within the surrounding environs called on the current administration to change some of the fire service personnel or terminate their service to serve as caution to others uttering that, that would be the only ways to ensure sanity among the officials.

Meanwhile, information that this paper has also gathered was that the leader of the GNFS branch at Mampong Akwapim, Officer Emma has kept adamant to the demeanour of the staff and he himself uses working hours chasing young girls in town.

It is in this light that the people have raised concern about the manner and are calling on the government to institute pragmatic measures to restore the reverence of service.
