The Communications Director of the Convention People?s Party (CPP), Nii Armah Akomfrah has opined that the party?s abysmal performance in the 2012 general elections can be blamed on tactically polarized voting which has ?squeezed out good candidates, good policies.?
Speaking to Citi News, Mr. Akomfrah asserted that ?one side or the other of the Ghanaian society simply want to keep the other side out and that is what is governing every vote from every polling station that we were observing.?
According to the CPP Communications Director, the party?s poor showing in this year?s election in no way meant the party was dead.
?We have shaped Ghanaian politics even though we haven?t had the numbers in Parliament that we had in the 60?s.?
According to him, the two leading parties in Ghana; the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), are making efforts to ?return our economy into a CPP economy? so even if we are in Parliament or not, we will continue to shape the agenda. We are the social conscience of this nation.?
The CPP?s Member of Parliament for the Jomoro Constituency, Samia Nkrumah also lost her seat; which means the the party will no longer have representation in Parliament.
In response to this, Mr. Akomfrah stated that ?nobody can argue that somehow Samia Nkrumah did not have the energy or did not have the focus? we are still analyzing what went wrong in Elubo for example. We had one of the most formidable machines in Jomoro and that will remain so? It doesn?t mean that we will just disappear, sit at home and fold our arms.?
