The Ministry of health in 2016 under the John Mahama government, procured 30 ambulances at the cost of €2.4m, but they were described as substandard since they did not meet the specified standard.

This thereby, compelled the Ministry to suspend the purchase and distribution of the ambulances to the various government hospitals in the country.

The Minister of health, Hon. Kwaku Agyemang Manu was very shocked after inspecting these Ambulances on 13th September, 2017. He said in an interview with the press that, they were going to send a delegation to the manufacturing company in Germany to inspect and ensure for the required Ambulances for the country.

Following this, the deputy Minister of health, who is also the MP for Weija – Gbawe Constituency, Hon. Tina Gifty Naa Ayeley Mensah, has embarked on a three day working visit to Germany in the company of the Director of the Ghana Ambulance Service, to inspect some ambulances under production by the giant Benz ambulance manufacturing company.

The inspection of the ambulance, is in line with government’s commitment to retool the ambulance service to add to their fleet of cars to save lives.

The working visit to the ambulance manufacturing company in Germany, is purposed to inspect and ascertain the suitability and durability among others of the ambulance for possible recommendation for consideration by government.
