Ghana to meet Lesotho next after kicking out Sudan

wpid-blackstars1.jpgGhana moved to the top in Group D of the 2014 FIFA World Cup after defeating Sudan 3-1 on Friday in Omdurman to keep their hopes of a final round spot on course.

Ten-man Ghana needed an Asamoah Gyan brace and a strike by Sulley Muntari to secure the win that sends the Black Stars into a two-point lead at the summit of Group D ahead of Zambia, who play Lesotho on Saturday.

Left-back Richard Kissi Boateng was shown the red card for a tackle earned the host a penalty, which was converted by Mudathir Al Tayeb in a frenetic fixture at the Al-Merreikh Stadium.

The Black Stars will play Lesotho next in the penultimate fixture of the second round qualifiers in Maseru on June 16.

Gyan opened the scoring after 16 minutes but the host fought their way back into the game through the penalty converted by Mudathir on the half hour mark as the first half ended 1-1 apiece.

After the break, Gyan was the mark again, putting Kwesi Appiah?s side back in the lead, 18 minutes after recess.

With the host pushing to at least pick a point from the game, Muntari put the game beyond the Nile Crocodiles when he struck the final goal in the 89th minute.
