Two Ghanaian table tennis players are in Tunisia to participate in the African qualification series for this year’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.

Derek Abrefa and Emmanuel Commey are chasing places in the Olympics at the 2020 African singles and mixed doubles qualification tournament being held at the Rades Sport Hall in Tunis.

Abrefa has been drawn in Group 2 with Nigeria’s Olajide Omotayo and Ahmed Djamal of Djibouti, with Commey facing Saheed Idowu of Congo Brazzaville and Kenya’s Brian Mutua in Group 4.

Both athletes have been training intensively over the past few weeks and feel well prepared for the tournament.

“I’ve had a fantastic training camp in the USA and I must say I am prepared to deliver and lift the flag of Ghana high,” Abrefa said.

“I have really trained hard for this event and I know I will make an impact in the qualifiers,” Commey added.

Four places are up for grabs in each of the men’s singles and women’s singles events, with one for the mixed doubles. Enditem
