The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana has announced the suspension of a proposed 15% hike in transport fares scheduled to commence on Monday, July 22, 2024.

Citing concerns over the economic impact on commuters amidst rising fuel and spare parts costs, the Association postponed the fare adjustment. David Agboado, the Association’s Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the decision was made in consideration of public welfare.

“We have observed the recent increases in fuel prices and other operational costs, but we believe now is not the appropriate time to burden the public further,” Agboado explained in an interview with Citi Business News.

He urged drivers to maintain current fare rates until conditions are more favourable for an adjustment. “Patience is necessary; we are acting in the best interest of commuters,” Agboado reassured.

The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) has endorsed the decision, urging commuters to disregard any announcements of fare increases.
