Ghana’s Security Agencies to Undergo Counter Terrorism Exercise


The Security Agencies and Emergency Services in the country under the auspices of the Ministry of National Security will conduct a Counter Terrorism training exercise codenamed “EXERCISE HOME SHIELD” within the Accra-Tema Metropolis on Friday November 30, 2018.

A statement signed by COP George Asiamah (RTD), Director Counter Terrorism and copied to the Ghana News Agency said EX HOME SHIELD is aimed at practicing and harnessing the various roles and expertise of all stakeholders in the National Counter Terrorism Effort (NCTE) and to test their preparedness in event of any terrorist attack.

It said it is also to sharpen the alertness of all stakeholders in the NCTE in the wake of increased threats in terrorism in the ECOWAS sub-region.

The statement said the exercise participants include the Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Bureau of National Investigation, National Security Council Secretariat, National Disaster Management Organisation, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue, Financial Intelligence Centre, National Ambulance Service and Ghana Health Service.

“The exercise will involve the movement of troops and equipment in some parts of Accra.

“The public is thus advised not to panic when they observe any such unusual movement of troops, personnel and equipment. The public is also advised to cooperate with the Police who will be deployed to control and divert traffic flow at short notice as part of the exercise”, the statement said.
