The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has opened nominations for its 2025 National and Regional Executive Elections, a critical step in the organization’s leadership transition.
Nominations began on May 16, 2025, and will close on May 30, 2025, according to a press release from the GJA Elections Committee chaired by Peter Agbeko.
The committee urged eligible members with “the passion and competence to lead” to submit nominations for roles at national or regional levels. Key national positions include President, Vice President, General Secretary, Organising Secretary, Treasurer, and Public Affairs Officer.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana will oversee the elections on June 30, 2025, ensuring adherence to democratic processes. The GJA emphasized its commitment to transparency, noting the elections align with its mandate to uphold governance standards within Ghana’s media landscape.
This electoral cycle marks a pivotal moment for the association, which represents journalists nationwide. Analysts highlight the elections’ role in shaping media policy and reinforcing press freedom as Ghana continues to strengthen its democratic institutions.
