Ghana’s national armwrestling team, the Golden Arms, will travel to New Delhi for the World Armwrestling Championship from October 26 to November 7, entering the global stage on the back of a dominant continental campaign that saw the country claim 168 medals at the African Championship on home soil in May.

The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) will send a nine-puller squad to the tournament, organized by the World Armwrestling Federation and expected to draw around 1,500 competitors from across the globe. The team includes Grace Minta, who became the first Ghanaian to win a World Armwrestling Championship gold medal when she triumphed in Moldova in 2024 after building her reputation through three African Championship titles. She is joined by world championship medalists Mabel Yeboah and Blessed Abeka Nunoo, and African champion Daniel Acquah, a Ghana Prisons Service officer known for his strength in the 60kg category.

The squad’s confidence stems from Ghana’s showing at May’s 15th African Armwrestling Championship at the Borteyman Sports Complex, where the Golden Arms topped the medal table with 71 gold, 63 silver and 34 bronze medals, more than double the tally of closest challenger Benin. Minta led that campaign, backed by Godwin Sackey, whose speed earned him recognition as a breakout performer of the tournament.

Ahead of New Delhi, the team will enter a national camping programme built around physical conditioning, technical and tactical work, recovery and mental preparation, led by coaches Husseini Akueteh Addy and Nii Otu Larkyne. The camp will also help the technical team finalize the squad across weight categories, with an emphasis on adapting to international competition standards after a run of continental success.

GAF President Charles Osei Asibey said the federation remains focused on giving Ghanaian athletes regular opportunities to compete at the highest level as part of a broader strategy to develop medal-winning talent. The federation has appealed to corporate and state institutions for travel support as camping preparations gather pace ahead of the October championship.
